AR5001D description :

The AOR AR-5001D is also available in the black-box version with the reference AR-2300, the latter aimed for radio monitoring from remote locations or computer / LAN controlled. This is a conventional technology radio receiver in the 25~3150 MHz band with regard to the frequency conversion structure while it is digital in the last IF for the filtering, demodulation and signal processing phases. Between 0.04~25 MHz a direct sampling is implemented using an ADC (analog to digital converter) of 14 bit operating at 65 Ms/second, a SDR configuration that guarantees notable performances.

In addition to conventional SSB / AM / FM modes the receiver can demodulate analog video signals on FM carrier, a composite video output is available for suitable monitors.

This AOR model operates with double / triple listening, the HF part between 0.04~25 MHz can receive a simultaneous emission with the V/UHF bands between 25~3150 MHz. For frequencies over 25 MHz it is also possible to tune two separate channels if they fall within the bandwidth of the IF filter. By combining both options, three emissions are simultaneously monitored. A digital audio recorder allows you to track the radio traffic listened by storing it in a standard SD card. The device allows the use of SD-HC cards up to 32 GB for a maximum recording time over 240 hours using a WAV file.

Multiple search functions with speed up to 100 channels/second. Spectrum analyzer in FFT technology, purely digital and in real time, which shows on the LCD display a band adjustable from 400 KHz to 10 MHz in 100 KHz steps.

AR5001D performance and practical notes :

The AR5001D is the successor of the well-known AR-5000A+3, a valuable receiver in its period, of which it shares roughly the frequency coverage and the basic operating modes. On the other hand, the internal circuit solutions change from a classic super heterodyne to a hybrid SDR. The goal of the receiver remains to be a reference point for demanding users and at the same time requiring relative simplicity in the control interface. The use of an analog S-meter and the presence of only three rotary controls on the front panel goes in this direction. About the aspects of excellence of the apparatus there is the selectivity that in absolute terms, expressed with the filter’s shape-factor, are really close to the ideal.
